The extension of temporary measures to support Turkish and Syrian temporary residents affected by the February 23 earthquake was announced.
Following the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria in February 2023, the Government of Canada introduced measures to support Turkish and Syrian temporary residents in Canada who were unable to return home due to the destruction in the region.

Refugee sponsor groups can now apply through the permanent residence online portal
Refugee sponsor groups will have until December 31, 2023, to transition to the Permanent Residence Portal. Starting January 1, 2024, IRCC will only be accepting applications submitted through the portal or by mail.

The temporary public policy to facilitate the processing of temporary resident visa (TRV) applications in inventory is no longer in effect.
Ottawa, December 15, 2023—The temporary public policy to facilitate the processing of temporary resident visa (TRV) applications in inventory is no longer in effect. On February 28, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) implemented this policy to streamline and speed up the processing of TRVs to address the inventory that grew during the COVID-19 pandemic. The policy has been successful in clearing most of the older TRV cases in our inventory

New permanent residence pathway for former minors in protective care.
That’s why Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada introduced a public policy to provide a permanent residence pathway for individuals who came to Canada as minors, were placed in protective care, and never obtained permanent residence or citizenship status as a result. This public policy is in force until January 21, 2027.
